Olive Oil from Spain

Native to the Mediterranean, olive oil production has expanded to every continent (except Antarctica) and is now produced in 43 countries. Why do we believe that extra virgin olive oil from Spain is superior?

Olive Oil From Spain

For centuries, Spain has been renowned for its high-quality olive oil production. In fact, Spain is the world's largest producer of extra virgin olive oil ("EVOO), responsible for over 40% of the world's total production.

Spanish extra virgin olive oil has a long and rich history, dating back to the Roman Empire. Olive trees were introduced to the country by the Romans in the 3rd century BC, and the country has been producing olive oil ever since. Spanish olive trees and oils are steeped in tradition and culture, and the olive oil industry is a vital part of the country's economy and way of life.

What sets Spanish olive oil apart from olive oils produced in other countries is the country's unique combination of climate, soil, and olive varieties. Spanish olive oil is characterized by its fruity, complex flavor and rich, golden color.

Finding the Right Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Using EVOO from Spain in your cooking is a great way to add flavor and nutrition to your meals. Many extra virgin olive oils are not what they claim to be. That is why it is important to choose olive oil from the right brand to ensure you are receiving high-quality extra virgin olive oil:

  • Single Origin
  • Early-Harvest
  • Organic
  • Cold-Pressed
  • Never Blended

By choosing Oliva Dorado, you can be sure that you are getting the highest quality organic extra virgin olive oil, sourced directly from our family-owned farm in the heart of Spain. We only work with organic olives, which produce a delicate and delicious oil.

What is "Early-Harvest" Extra Virgin Olive Oil and why does it command a price premium?

Early harvest extra virgin olive oil is a premium option because it's made from un-ripe olives that are picked early in the fall. These green olives are pressed, filtered, and bottled while they're still hard and young, which results in a smaller yield but a higher concentration of antioxidants, polyphenols, and vitamins.

These compounds are known to have potential health benefits, such as reducing inflammation, fighting oxidative stress, and promoting overall health. It also retains a much stronger smell and taste, which provides a better overall product, and allows you to really taste all the hints of flavor.

This is why some olive oils are cheaper than others. You can have a late harvest extra virgin olive oil, where the producers were able to get more quantity per olive and can sell for a lower price. Early-harvest typically also means you are getting a high-quality product, from one region, and a single-origin within that.
